Black Bean Veggie Burgers

The best homemade veggie burger recipe. Meat eater approved.

  • 1 16 oz can Black beans (Use low-sodium black beans for a healthier alternative )
  • 1/2 Green bell pepper – diced
  • 1/2 Small onion – diced
  • 2 cloves Garlic – peeled, diced
  • 1 Egg; beaten
  • 2/3 cup Bread crumbs or Panko crumbs
  • 1 tablespoon Chili powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  1. Drain liquid from beans; place in strainer and rinse. Dry.

  2. Place beans in bowl and mash with fork or hands.

  3. Place bell pepper, onion, and garlic in a food processor until finely chopped. Or dice by hand.

  4. Add mixture to beans.

  5. Add spices. Mix.

  6. Add beaten egg. Mix.

  7. Stir in crumbs.

  8. Form burger sized patties. Cook.

  9. Recomemmended: Individually package patties in foil and freeze before cooking. This makes the patty easier to cook on a grill.
