Bats are the only mammals capable of sustained flight. Bat wings are essentially modified hands with a thin membrane. The membrane stretches between the fingers and extends down the sides of the body and legs. It is made of skin and other connective tissues.

A native to Florida, the Mexican or Brazilian free-tailed bat, can reach speeds of 100 mph (160 km/h) and can fly at an altitude of 10,800 ft (3,300 m).
