Most jellies release their sperm and eggs into the water for fertilization to occur. In Australian spotted or white spotted jellyfish fertilization occurs within the female’s reproductive organs until a polyp is formed. The female will then drop the polyp onto the sea floor where it will begin to multiply on its own. Polyps eventually grow into mushroom-shaped jellies.
