Giant pandas are still considered a threatened species with around 1,500+ estimated to be in the wild.

In 2016, the International Union for Conservation of Nature downgraded giant pandas to ‘vulnerable’ on the global list of species at risk of extinction.

When reclassified, the giant panda population increased by 17% in a decade showing that conservation efforts are working.
