Scientists have confirmed the existence of a cave on the moon at the Sea of Tranquility.
The cave is located 250 miles (400 kilometers) from the Apollo 11 landing site, where Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin walked 55 years ago.
The known area is at least 130 feet (40 meters) wide and extends tens of yards (meters) long, possibly even more.
It is accessible via the deepest known pit on the Moon. The cave is just the initial part of an underground cavity.
There are over 200 pits discovered on the lunar surface.
This discovery could pave the way for future lunar explorers to establish a moonbase. The cave’s natural shelter offers protection from cosmic rays, solar radiation, and micrometeorite strikes.
