The Lakers team name comes from “the land of 10,000 lakes,” Minnesota.

Minnesota has 11,842 lakes which they classify as bodies of water 10 acres or more. 

The Lakers basketball team played in Minnesota from 1947 to 1958 before moving to Los Angeles in the 1960s.
