Over 50 million egg-laying hens died from the ‘22 Avian Flu outbreak of 2023

As of January 2023, around 4-5% of hens used in agriculture have been lost to avian flu and related causes. The February ‘22 avian flu outbreak has carried into ‘23 and has led to a reduced supply of eggs which can drive up the cost.
