The oceans are becoming more acidic due to increased levels of carbon dioxide, CO2, in our atmosphere. This CO2 naturally dissolves in the ocean creating an acid. Acid water is no fun and harmful to sea life. This is called acidification.

Kelp can extract this CO2 from the water and help restore balance. In fact, giant kelp are able to float upwards and on top of water due to gas pockets in their blades filled with CO2 and nitrogen. Kelp forests are home to sea life like oysters, shrimp, lobster, and sharks.
