Starting after sunset on January 21, Mars, Jupiter, Uranus, Neptune, Saturn, and Venus will visibly align in the sky but only four planets will be visible to the naked eye.
With some calling it a “planetary parade,” Mars, Jupiter, Venus, and Saturn will be easily visible to the naked eye. You’ll need high-powered binoculars or a telescope to see Neptune and Uranus.
Mars, Venus, and Jupiter will actually be the brightest objects in the sky.
This alignment will be visible until mid to late February. There will be two more planetary alignments featuring five or more planets this year.
A planetary alignment happens occasionally when four or five planets appear visible in the same part of the sky. It is common to see at least two or three of these planets in the sky depending on the time of year.
Here is where to find the planets
Visible to the naked eye will be:
- ♊️ Mars in the constellation Gemini
- ♉️ Jupiter in the constellation Taurus
- ♒️ Saturn and Venus will be close together in the constellation Aquarius
Visible through high-powered binoculars or telescope:
- ♈️ Uranus in the constellation Aries
- ♓️ Neptune in the constellation Pisces
